Research Interests

Dr. Sheikh’s main research interests comprise the investigation of novel diagnostic approaches in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and the evaluation of patient genetics that influence response to therapy. Dr. Sheikh’s goal is to understand why individuals develop IBD, why the progression of disease is different in each patient and why each patient responds differently to therapy. Using novel and cutting edge genomic technology Dr. Sheikh is trying to elucidate how an individual’s genetic make up influences their disease severity and response to therapy. Dr. Sheikh is funded by the American Gastroenterologial Society, NIH and CCFA to conduct his research studies
