Director, Office of Research Technologies Professor and Director of Research, Department of Genetics Associate Chair for Administration

Chris received his BS in Biology from Concord College followed by a PhD in Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy from The Ohio State University.  He completed postdoctoral training in the Laboratories for Reproductive Biology in the Department of Pediatrics at UNC Chapel Hill (1994-2000).  He served as Research Assistant Professor in Pediatrics (2000-2002) and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (2002-2003) before leaving academia to work in the pharmaceutical industry.  Chris worked at biotech start-up Voyager Pharmaceutical Corp. (2004-2007), clinical research organization (CRO) Jubilant Clinsys Inc. (2007-2012) where he earned a Six Sigma Green Belt certification, and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Catalent Pharma Solutions (2012-2016).  Chris returned to UNC Chapel Hill in 2016 as Director of Research/Research Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics–and was promoted to Research Professor in the Department of Genetics in 2020–and joined the UNC School of Medicine Office of Research as Director, Office of Research Technologies in 2018.

 

As the ORT Director, Dr. Gregory supports the complex ecosystem of more than 50 core labs across campus in the following key areas: operations, quality management, allocation of funding for equipment/method development/general needs, rate reviews, performance management and communications training, marketing and promotion through website and presentations, and strategic planning to ensure UNC cores have the latest technologies.
