Core Facilities Advocacy Committee (CFAC) Fall 2025 RFA
General Information
This RFA cycle will open for submissions August 11, 2025 and close September 12, 2025 at 11:59 pm.
This is a general RFA; requests for capital equipment, institutional matching funds for external instrumentation grants, operational needs, and methods/technological development will all be considered.
Requests are encouraged that:
- add new technology or instrumentation that will serve a group of faculty
- upgrade heavily used technology
- replace aging technology
- develop new methodologies
- develop or optimize new services within the core facility to provide proof of concept and troubleshooting prior to launch as a core service
Funding requests for institutional matching funds for an external instrumentation grant will be evaluated early. Funding decisions will be communicated prior to September 20th, 2025.
CFAC is especially interested in new technology or methodology which will bring cutting-edge experimental capabilities to UNC that are or will be of benefit to many investigators, or that will help in obtaining external funding. Funding requests must be submitted by a core facility but are recommended to include input and letters of support from an investigator interested in collaborating with the core.
CFAC does not routinely fund requests above $50,000
Eligibility
Core director submitted an Annual Planning Survey to the Office of Research Technologies and has a history of submitted surveys. For instructions to submit a survey please contact corefacilities@med.unc.edu Core facilities must have or be undergoing a rate review approval through the Office of Sponsored Programs. National/regionally funded resources are exempt from this requirement Matching funds from the core facility’s home or subsidizing department/center or from one or more major user PIs are expected.For large equipment purchases, other options may be available such as NCBC Institutional Development Grants and the NIH S10 Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG).If you would like guidance on the appropriate funding mechanism for your request please reach out to the Office of Research Technologies at corefacilities@med.unc.edu
