Laser Services
We provide laser and light-based therapies for a variety of adult and pediatric conditions. Performing laser procedures for specific skin conditions is Dr. Christopher Sayed and Dr. Edith Bowers (adult patients) and Dr. Beth Nieman (pediatric patients).

During your consultation, strategies will be reviewed to treat your condition and discuss likely outcomes. Often, multimodal therapy (medical, laser, and surgical) provides improved results and a multidisciplinary team utilizing UNC physicians specializing in each area can be assembled to treat your or your child’s condition. Many conditions, especially malformations in children, require medical use of lasers and are not considered cosmetic by insurers – our financial counselor will help you to determine your insurance coverage for each condition and procedure. For each condition, a variety of lasers is utilized, and each treatment is individualized based on your consultation and unique response to treatment.

Dr. Nieman specializes in laser treatment in children and offers expertise in treating a wide range of conditions needing medical management, laser and/or surgery. Laser can be started in infancy and your child’s condition can be managed throughout their life as needed. Our clinic offers compassionate care to help your child’s experience be as positive as possible. Dr. Nieman also has operating room privileges at UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center on Mason farm road in Chapel Hill if your child needs sedation for their procedure.

In addition to lasers, our department offers other ultraviolet-based phototherapies commonly used to treat psoriasis, certain forms of skin lymphomas and eczemas.
