The Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma Clinic serves patients with a history of melanoma, dysplastic nevi, multiple nevi and/or a family history of melanoma. Patients receive complete skin examinations in this clinic. The technologies of baseline cutaneous digital imaging, dermoscopy, and reflectance confocal microscopy are incorporated into the methodologies for following these patients. Patients with a history of melanoma are often also followed in conjunction with Surgical Oncology and Hematology/Oncology. The physicians with a special interest in melanoma from these specialties and from pathology meet bimonthly as the Multidisciplinary Melanoma Group to discuss difficult cases. In addition, the pathology slides of melanomas and moles can be reviewed by UNC dermatopathologists.

Diseases and diagnoses treated by UNC Dermatology Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma Clinic include:

  • Dysplastic nevi (moles)
  • Melanoma
  • Other melanocytic nevi including birthmarks, Spitz moles, and multiple moles
