7th ELSI Congress

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Celebrating 25 Years of the ELSI Congress

The 25th anniversary of the first ELSI Congress offers an opportunity to reflect on the field’s evolving questions, collaborations, and debates and to consider how work on ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) can respond to future developments and challenges. Join us in marking this milestone by contributing to a thoughtful exchange about where ELSI has been and where the field is headed.

We welcome submissions from all disciplines and methodologies that reflect the wide spectrum of ELSI research, whether focused on emerging technologies, policy and governance, ethical and conceptual foundations, lived experience, or methodological innovation. This call is open to work that deepens understanding, sparks conversation, proposes solutions to pressing ELSI issues, or that reflects on the nature of ELSI inquiry, including its boundaries, assumptions, and impact. We especially welcome contributions that engage a wide range of perspectives to inform current ELSI work and shape its future directions. Submissions from early career scholars and trainees are encouraged and a limited number of travel awards will be available for accepted abstracts.

We invite submissions in a variety of session formats to foster dialogue and engagement, including debates on ELSI issues, author-meets-critics sessions, interactive workshops, paper and poster presentations, panels that blend scholarly and lived perspectives, and fireside chats featuring more informal, moderated conversations. Contributors may also indicate interest in being considered for a plenary presentation. Detailed information on abstract requirements and session formats will be available in January 2026.

Submission Portal will open on January 16, 2026.
Abstract submissions are due by February 16, 2026.
