Emily’s research involves using innovative qualitative methods to investigate mechanisms underlying modern health issues. She has worked in research involving the emergency medical services workforce, investigating how structural racism, violence, language, culture, and training affect that work. Supported by her background as a public school teacher, she has also begun research on how adolescent health behaviors, especially risk behaviors such as peer violence, are influenced by structural racism and criminalization.
