Hi! My name is Savannah Stewart and I’m a rising senior at Vernon Malone College and Career Academy. I’m currently in the Nurse Aide program where I’m earning my CNA 1 and 2 certifications. I’m also part of the National Honor Society, where I volunteer and help organize fundraisers. On top of that, I’m in the Race Car Club—we actually built a working race car and got to show it off, which was super cool!

Outside of school, I’m really involved with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts). I hold leadership positions, volunteer in my community, and I’m currently working toward earning my Eagle rank, which I hope to finish this summer. I’m also in Order of the Arrow (OA), a Scouting honor society, where I lead events, visit local troops, and help run elections.

In my free time, I love doing anything outdoors—hiking, camping, canoeing—you name it. I also enjoy crafts like crocheting and sewing.

My interest in medicine started back in third grade when we learned about the human

skeleton. I was hooked immediately and knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. As I got older, I realized I could combine that passion with my love for helping people. That led me to earn merit badges like First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and Search and Rescue—some more than once! I even started teaching first aid to younger scouts, using all my supplies and a red pen to make fake injuries. I’d show them how to treat each one, and I always brought tons of energy to every lesson.

I chose to attend a high school with a medical program, which led me to compete in SkillsUSA. I placed 4th in both the regional and state First Aid/CPR/AED competitions, which was an awesome experience.

All of this passion led me to join ISHTaR, a program that’s helped me explore all kinds of  medical careers. I’m especially interested in Otolaryngology (ENT), but I’ve learned about so many different paths. We’ve done things like medical moulage (fake injury makeup), EMS ride-a-longs, and Community Health Labs, where we helped people get eyeglasses and worked alongside real healthcare providers.

This internship gave me amazing hands-on experience, helped me make new friends, and showed me even more ways I can help people through medicine. I’m super thankful for the opportunity and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in healthcare!
