“Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship

In a meaningful conversation, two healthcare providers exchange vital patient information, emphasizing the crucial role of teamwork and collaboration in the dynamic healthcare industry

The “Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship is an initiative designed to enhance leadership development across the UNC School of Medicine. Sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development (FALD), this professorship provides departments with the opportunity to bring distinguished leaders to campus to share insights on leadership in academic medicine.

AAMC – The FALD office provides scholarships to assist with the cost of registration and travel to participate in the AAMC’s Faculty Leadership Development Seminars for Women and Minority Faculty.

Academy of Educators

The Academy of Educators (AOE), at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, was founded in October 2006 as a part of the School’s strategic plan to enhance research and scholarship towards excellence in teaching. Currently, the Academy has four committees, Scholarship, Programming, Awards, and Membership. The AOE is overseen by a President, with support from a Leadership Council, and a Coordinator from the Office of Faculty Affairs & Leadership Development.

Audience: Open to All Faculty and Staff

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)

Intensive, one-year fellowship of leadership training with extensive coaching, networking, and mentoring opportunities for senior women faculty at the rank of associate or full professor who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions.

Harvard Program for Chairs of Clinical Services

LAMP is a nine-month, cohort-based faculty development and orientation program for faculty in the second or third year of their appointment at UNC.

The FALD Professional Development Series: Discover Your Superpower offers free workshops and seminars every other month to equip faculty in the School of Medicine with essential skills for success such as time management, writing skills, and negotiation. Join the virtual series to develop the superpowers you need to thrive, and find the schedule in Vital Signs and on the FALD website.

Rising Stars Program For Faculty Interview Success (Rising Stars)

The UNC SOM’s Rising Star Program’s main goal is to broaden participation among faculty members in the basic sciences. This program provides training to postdoctoral fellows to help them excel during the faculty interview process by exposing admitted fellows to the same components that they will experience during the faculty job interview process. This includes job talks, chalk talks, and multiple one-on-one faculty interviews. Participants will also attend workshops on the faculty environment and negotiating hiring packages. This program is sponsored by the Vice Dean for Research at UNC SOM, the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Gilliam Awards.

Audience: Early Career Faculty

Asian American Faculty Association (AAFA) – The AAFA’s goal is to support, empower, and celebrate Asian American faculty and to foster opportunities for networking, communication, and growth. The AAFA Affinity Group is open to all.

Association for Professional Women in Medical Sciences (APWIMS) – Our mission is to facilitate the professional development of all women in the school of medicine through information sharing, networking, and career development opportunities and support equitable practices in promoting academic and health system leadership. The APWIMS affinity group is open to all.
