“Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship

In a meaningful conversation, two healthcare providers exchange vital patient information, emphasizing the crucial role of teamwork and collaboration in the dynamic healthcare industry

The “Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship is an initiative designed to enhance leadership development across the UNC School of Medicine. Sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development (FALD), this professorship provides departments with the opportunity to bring distinguished leaders to campus to share insights on leadership in academic medicine.

Audience: Open to All Faculty

AAMC – The FALD office provides scholarships to assist with the cost of registration and travel to participate in the AAMC’s Faculty Leadership Development Seminars for Early and Mid-Career Faculty.

AAMC Organizational Leadership in Academic Medicine

The Organizational Leadership in Academic Medicine (OLAM) seminar is designed to ensure new Associate Deans and Department Chairs are equipped with the essential leadership and management skills needed to support an institutions' mission and goals.

Academy of Educators

The Academy of Educators (AOE), at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, was founded in October 2006 as a part of the School’s strategic plan to enhance research and scholarship towards excellence in teaching. Currently, the Academy has four committees, Scholarship, Programming, Awards, and Membership. The AOE is overseen by a President, with support from a Leadership Council, and a Coordinator from the Office of Faculty Affairs & Leadership Development.

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)

Rising Stars Program For Faculty Interview Success (Rising Stars)

The UNC SOM’s Rising Star Program’s main goal is to broaden participation among faculty members in the basic sciences. This program provides training to postdoctoral fellows to help them excel during the faculty interview process by exposing admitted fellows to the same components that they will experience during the faculty job interview process. This includes job talks, chalk talks, and multiple one-on-one faculty interviews. Participants will also attend workshops on the faculty environment and negotiating hiring packages. This program is sponsored by the Vice Dean for Research at UNC SOM, the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Gilliam Awards.

Audience: Early Career Faculty
