Our Culture

Our purpose at UNC Health is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others we serve.

To meet this mission and ensure our continued success as a leading public academic health system, we launched ONE UNC Health.

​​​​​​​Our goal is to more tightly unite UNC Health’s entities across North Carolina and the UNC School of Medicine by creating a shared culture and strategy, with our patients and teammates at the center of all that we do.

The Organizational Culture & Change team strives to make UNC Health the very best place to receive care, work, and learn.

We strengthen our extraordinary culture and teammate experience and champion transformative change across our system.

This enables every member of our One Great Team to advance UNC Health’s mission with clarity and purpose.

 

Our Culture Journey

We first launched ONE UNC Health and introduced our four system values in 2019 to align our entities across the state (i.e., hospitals, practices, UNC School of Medicine) so every teammate feels valued and recognized at our organization.

The COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020 just as we were beginning to roll out initiatives to promote our “systemness,” but our teammates ended up living these new values and putting them into action as we cared for our teammates, patients and communities during an unprecedented time.

In 2024, we created the organizational culture & change team to promote and expand on ONE UNC Health.
