UNC Family Medicine faculty Anthony Viera will contribute his expertise in Family Medicine, epidemiology, population health, and evidence-based medicine.
UNC Family Medicine faculty member, teacher, and researcher Anthony J. Viera has been selected to join the Physician Board at the American Health Council.
The American Health Council is an organization dedicated to health awareness and advancement. The Council works to create a collective communication network of innovative doctors, researchers, and experts. The AHC nomination committee chooses select, highly qualified individuals to serve in its national organization. Viera will contribute from his areas of expertise in Family Medicine, epidemiology, population health, and evidence-based medicine.
Viera is not only a professor in the Department of Family Medicine. He is also an adjunct professor in the Public Health Leadership Program, adjunct professor in epidemiology, as well as the Director of the UNC MD-MPH Program (Health Care and Prevention.) His dedication to scholarship and public health has earned him numerous grants and teaching awards. He is author of nearly 200 scholarly articles, in addition to co-editing a book on medical faculty leadership and management.
He created and directs the Hypertension Research Program, a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary group seeking to promote and develop all facets of hypertension research. He is also researching food labeling schemes and their effects on consumer purchasing decisions and physical activity.
