Margaret Helton, MD is our Interim Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.
“Dr. Helton, over the years, has been a key leader in advancing our top ranked Family Medicine department across all missions. With her at the helm as Interim Chair, I am confident she will continue to advance the Family Medicine strategic plan, and invest well in faculty, staff, and learners,” said Cristy Page, UNC School of Medicine Executive Dean and previous Family Medicine chair.
Helton’s previous administrative appointments with the UNC Department of Family Medicine include: Vice Chair for Clinical Excellence, Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs, Director of Career Development Fellowship, Director of Operations, and Director of Maternal and Child Health. Helton currently serves as the medical director for Carol Woods Retirement Community. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her family medicine residency and fellowship in geriatrics at the University of North Carolina.
