Catherine L. Coe, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine, will serve as the UNC School of Medicine’s assistant dean for clinical curriculum beginning on March 20.
In the role, Coe will oversee clinical educational activities across all four years of the curriculum in the Offices of Medical Student Education. Coe will ensure that the clinical curriculum and program evaluation is aligned with accreditation standards, lead efforts in continuous quality improvement in a range of areas, work with colleagues across the School of Medicine campuses and UNC Health on efforts to support learner opportunities, and more.
Coe completed her undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Washington and completed her family medicine residency and chief residency at UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine. She worked closely in the development of the School of Medicine’s three-year MD curriculum, the Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training program, where she has served as the director for the last six years. Coe also co-directed the Patient-Centered Care Course, serves as the associate medical director to the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic, and serves as the principal investigator on several medical education grants. Her academic interests include design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative curricula, competency-based medical education, and workforce development. Coe is a nationally recognized leader in medical education and is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges Board of Directors and also active in the American Medical Association Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium.
