Resident Physician

Personal Statement

My name is Caldwell Powell and I’m excited to be back home in North Carolina.  I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and from there I went to undergrad at Columbia University where I got my BA in Neuroscience and Behavior.  After college, I spent a year in Durham working in a genetics lab before I moved away again for medical school at Washington University in St Louis.  I enjoyed my experiences in NYC and St. Louis and made lifelong friends there, but I’m excited to be back in North Carolina to complete my residency in Chapel Hill.

I chose UNC because I knew I would get great full scope family medicine training here.  On my interview day, I met faculty and residents who were passionate about family medicine (and they also treated each other like family).  I’m excited to be at a place like UNC where family medicine is held in such high regard.  I’m also excited to take advantage of the opportunities I’ll have to explore my interests in underserved care and global health.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, listening to music, watching a bit too much TV, and spending time with family and friends.  I’m looking forward to exploring Chapel Hill and the rest of the triangle area with my coresidents.
