Associate Director of Educational Programs

Biographical Information

 

Dawn Morriston received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and her Master of Public Health from UNC.  She has spent her entire 30-year career in North Carolina at the intersection of healthcare and education.  Before joining the Department of Family Medicine at UNC, Dawn was Director of Allied, Public, Dental and Pharmacy Education and Health Careers and Workforce Diversity at Eastern AHEC in Greenville, NC.  Dawn has experience in curriculum design, professional development, and program management.  She has been writing grants for 30 years and teaching and mentoring others in grantsmanship for over a decade.

In her six years at UNC, Dawn has secured over $20 million in grant money to advance development of rural residencies, behavioral health integration in primary care training, and faculty development for community-based preceptors.  In recent years, she has launched a faculty development program, called LAMP, which stands for Leadership in Academic Medicine Program; and in September 2022, she received the Deans Award for Excellence in Faculty Development.

Areas of Interest

Her areas of interest include grant writing, management and supervision, and quality improvement.
