Resident Physician

FQHC Track Resident: Siler City

Howdy! My name is Kyle McDaniel, and I am so happy to be working and learning alongside the great faculty and residents at UNC Family Medicine. Originally from Texas, I attended the University of Houston where I completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Art in Spanish. While in undergrad, I spent time in Argentina and Cuba participating in study abroad programs focused on medical Spanish and translation, respectively. For medical school, I attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

I knew I wanted to pursue family medicine after participating in a preceptorship program through the Texas Academy of Family Physicians that paired me with rural family medicine providers in a Federally Qualified Health Center along the Texas-Mexico border in the Big Bend region. There, I witnessed physician-advocates promoting equity for their community by building an inclusive health care infrastructure and breaking down language, educational, and even physical barriers to care.

My interests withing medicine involve full-spectrum primary care including chronic disease management, procedures, and HIV/Hepatitis C. I am also a big proponent of pushing medical education beyond the academic medical center and into community health centers where our work is critically important and needed. Those interests led me to UNC because of the diverse faculty and patient population they serve. I knew I wanted to work in a robust environment where, after residency, I would feel equipped with the knowledge to address the various challenges facing my patients and their communities.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, Zenni. We love to do anything outdoor-related, especially hiking/backpacking and stand up paddleboarding. My love of the outdoors is only eclipsed by my love of Star Trek, but maybe someday I will find a way to unite the two.
