Director, Preventive Medicine Residency

Biographical Information

Dr. Morgenlander served from 2020-2022 as the Interim Program Director for the UNC Preventive Medicine Residency Program seated in the Department of Family Medicine.  She also works as a physician educator with the Department of Health Behavior and as a community resilience educator for the nonprofit Resources for Resilience.  She is board certified in pediatrics and preventive medicine.  She obtained her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh and completed pediatric residency at Duke University Medical Center. After practicing general pediatrics for 25 years, she returned to training at UNC and completed a Master’s in Public Health and preventive medicine residency in 2018.  Outside of work, she can most often be found in her kitchen or screened porch, eating, drinking, talking, singing or laughing with her husband, Dr. Joel Morgenlander, their 4 adult kids and partners, their granddaughter, or their extended NC family.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Morgenlander is interested in combating the effects of ACEs through resilience, relationship building and enhancement of positive childhood experiences. She is also interested in addressing social determinants of health and promoting cancer prevention through HPV vaccine and tobacco use prevention and cessation.
