Biographical Information
Dr. Maria Thekkekandam is a North Carolina native, born and raised in Greensboro. She earned her undergraduate, medical, and public health master’s degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed her Family Medicine residency at Moses Cone Hospital. After practicing in Seattle, WA for a period, she returned to North Carolina in 2019 to continue her work in primary care.
Dr. Thekkekandam is committed to education and currently teaches first- and second-year medical students in a Patient Centered Care course, as well as mentors rotating third-year students in her clinic. Her clinical interests include prenatal care, mental health, and a variety of family medicine procedures.
With her public health background and her love of nature, she has a growing passion for the intersection of environmental sustainability and health—exploring how nature and ecological stewardship influence both mental and physical well-being. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their two children. Her creative pursuits include drawing and painting, learning new instruments, gardening, and cultivating native plants that support our local bees, birds, and butterflies. She also loves to travel.

Dr. Thekkekandam enjoys the breadth of Family Medicine but is particularly drawn to providing mental health care and performing procedures.
