FQHC Track Resident: Siler City
Hi, everyone! My name is Maryann England. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I attended The University of Texas in Austin for undergraduate where I studied Human Development and Family Sciences. After undergrad, I completed my Masters in Medical Sciences at University of North Texas Health Science Center. I went to Long School of Medicine in San Antonio, Texas.
While in my third year, I found myself enjoying each of my rotations and convinced myself each month that I was going to be that type of doctor. The beauty of family medicine at UNC is that we are trained to practice full-spectrum medicine, so I am able to pursue all of my passions and take care of a broad range of patients.
In medical school, I led projects that allowed me to take care of those in my community while also providing education to our patients about various topics, from postpartum depression to how to avoid diaper rash in babies. I also was a part of Frontera de Salud, which is an organization dedicated to providing healthcare to underserved populations in border cities in south Texas. Through these experiences, I grew to value being part of the community I served and meeting patients where they were at in terms of needs and resources. Consequently, the FQHC track at UNC was a huge appeal to me when applying to residency programs. The opportunities to enhance my Spanish skills and improve health and health literacy in a community were what drew me to this program.
In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my partner, friends, and family. I enjoy being outside, playing pickleball, using ClassPass to explore workout studios in the area. I love watching college football (Hook ‘em Horns!), reading, baking sourdough (happy to share my starter!) and exploring North Carolina. I look forward to meeting you!
