Analysis Software Licenses & Training

In-person and remote access to core Data Analysis computers

The UNC Flow core houses two workstations for Data Analysis. To avoid conflicts with someone else using the computer in person or remotely please sign-up via the iLabs page (under analysis cytometers > Data Analysis [PC]). The software available on the Analysis computers includes:

• FlowJo: Log on using your own free to create FlowJo portal license
• FCS Express 7: See the iLabs calendar for login instructions
• IDEAS (ImageStream analysis package)
• ModFit 6 (cell cycle analysis package)
• SpectroFlo (Cytek Aurora analysis package)

Analysis Software Site Licenses

The UNC Flow core manages Site Licenses for FlowJo and FCSExpress.  To request a seat on the site license please submit a Data Analysis Software License Request through the UNC Flow Core’s iLabs website.

Installation instructions:  

FlowJo for UNC investigators:

1. Request a FlowJo license through the UNC Flow Core’s iLabs website.
2. You will then receive an email from the core with instructions for how to set-up your personal FlowJo Portal account – FlowJo Portal Instructions 
3. DOWNLOAD: Download a current version of FlowJo. (FlowJo v10 – classic UI or FlowJo v11 – single screen UI rev. 10/2025)
4. INSTALL: Launch the FlowJo installer and follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation.
5. CONFIGURE: Launch FlowJo.
   1. Click on License (Bottom-right)
   2. Select “Use your FlowJo Portal account“
   3. Login with your FlowJo Portal account credentials
6. Analyze: Enter your FlowJo Portal account credentials when prompted to start analyzing in FlowJo

FCS Express for UNC investigators:

1. Create a De Novo Software Account
2. Request an FCS Express site License via the Flow Core iLabs site
3. DOWNLOAD: Download the current version of FCS Express.
4. INSTALL: Launch the FCS Express installer and follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation. Make sure to choose “Stand Alone” when prompted.
5. CONFIGURE: Run FCS Express. Follow the steps in the configuration file wizard.
   1. Choose the 1^st option for “Automatically through this wizard, I already have a De Novo Software account”.
   2. Enter your De Novo Software Account credentials.
   3. Choose configuration file for your Flow Cytometry site license.
   4. Complete the wizard and FCS Express will launch.
6. Analyze: Enter your De Novo Software account credentials when prompted to start analyzing in FCS Express.
