Dr. Bryce Seifert is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow that graduated from Clemson University with his B.S. in Genetics before continuing his Ph.D. training at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics. His graduate studies focused on the mechanisms underlying DNA repair gene expression in mouse embryonic stem cells (mouse ES cells). Specifically, he investigated the transcriptional regulation of nucleotide excision repair genes, and assessed changes in the DNA repair capacity of mouse ES cells deficient for a specific transcription factor.
In Dr. Berg’s lab, Bryce has shifted his focus to three projects that focus on evaluation of next-generation sequencing within clinical settings:
- As part of the UNCseq study, Bryce evaluates the contribution of germline genetic variants to inherited cancer predisposition.
- As a gene curator within ClinGen, Bryce assesses the association of certain gene-disease pairs through curation of the literature evidence supporting their association. Specifically he curates genes associated with cancer and cardiomyopathy.
- In NCGENES, Bryce serves as a molecular analyst to assess the clinical relevance of genetic variants in cancer and cardiomyopathy patients.
