Christian is a 2013 graduate of North Carolina State University where he earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences with minors in Microbiology and Spanish. Before joining the Berg Lab at UNC, he gained clinical laboratory experience as a Molecular Oncology Technologist with Laboratory Corporation of America in Research Triangle Park. There he trained on various diagnostic assays working with the detection of gene mutations in the JanusKinase gene (JAK2) and robertsonian translocations leading to the presence of a Philadelphia chromosome (BCR-ABL) that are often found in patients with various types of leukemia and other blood disorders.
Christian is excited to contribute to the NCGENES project with his knowledge of Whole Exome Sequencing as a clinical diagnostic technique and various other exciting projects in the future that will enhance the delivery of healthcare to the people of North Carolina. Aside from his work in the lab, he volunteers as a phlebotomist and Spanish translator with the Mariam Clinic of Raleigh and teaches Sunday school through puppetry to toddlers at church. Christian is a world explorer having visited places such as China, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, and Nicaragua, to name a few. Christian is leaving the Berg Lab to attend medical school at UNC.
