Michael is a 4th year Medical Student at UNC-Chapel Hill who works on interpretation of large genomic datasets. He graduated in 2007 with a B.S. in Physics from UNC-Chapel Hill, worked at IBM as a Software Engineer, then got an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University, where he worked on quantification and measurement of PET/CT imaging.
In the Berg Lab, he’s interested in using large genomic datasets to better inform personalized medicine and make clinically useful predictions of health. This work has given him deep experience with genetic variant annotation and Big Data, as well as medical screening methodology.
He’ll be entering the 2016 Residency Match, where he hopes to go to an academic medical center so he can continue to pursue his passion for patient care and research.
Outside of the lab, he’s a member of an Improv Comedy team, and enjoys lots of hiking, swimming, and biking.
