The Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology officially welcomed our incoming 2025 class of new students with a full day symposium on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Gaorav Gupta, MD, PhD (GMB Faculty Member), Misty Good, MD, MS, and Jason Stein, PhD (GMB Faculty Member), were selected as Yang Family Biomedical Scholars in the eighth installment of this annual School of Medicine award.

UNC-Chapel Hill and Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology faculty member Bob Goldstein was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on April 23.

Kerry Bloom's lab investigates how centromeres, the crucial chromosomal regions for segregation, respond to mechanical stress during cell division.  Recent publication from the lab was included in the March 2025 issue of Current Biology.

Kylie VanDerMolen was awarded an F31 Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Fellowship from NICHD.

UNC Chapel Hill’s GeNe Families group, which consists of graduate students in the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology, the Curriculum in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and the Department of Genetics, celebrated community with a 2025 Chili Cook-Off on Tuesday, March 4.

Genetics and Molecular Biology Graduate Students Jessica McAfee (1st author) and Alejandro Gomez in the lab of Hyejung Won published a paper titled "Massively parallel reporter assay investigates shared genetic variants of eight psychiatric disorders" in the March 2025 issue of Cell.
