The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) recognized a host of faculty members and a program alumna during its 86th annual meeting in Chicago this summer.

During the annual awards ceremony, ASCLS recognized Division Director Susan Beck and Associate Professor Tara Moon, both of whom are PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM with a CLS Distinguished Author Award for the manuscript An Algorithm for Curriculum Decisions in Medical Laboratory Science Education. The journal Clinical Laboratory Science published the article in April 2017. Additionally, Assistant Professor Lisa Cremeans, MMDS, MLS(ASCP)CM, SMCM, MBCM, was recognized as the Constituent Society Member of the Year for North Carolina.

The ASCLS also recognized 2016 graduate Sophia Chen, MLS(ASCP)CM, who began her term as president of the North Carolina Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (NCSCLS) in June 2018. She led a delegation of members representing NCSCLS at the annual meeting. At conclusion of the meeting, she spoke during the House of Delegates session inviting members to attend the 87th Annual Meeting scheduled for June 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina. While at the meeting, Chen also received a “Key to the Future” award recognizing her demonstration of leadership potential to the ASCLS.
