Featured Event: Mitchell Symposium, Spring 2025

The UNC Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy hosted Dr. LeRhonda Manigault-Bryant, “Dr. Rhon” as our speaker for the Spring 2025 Mitchell Symposium.
Dr. LeRhonda Manigault-Bryant is the director of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History. She navigates the academy as a scholar-artist, where she merges her life as a musician and filmmaker with her interdisciplinary specializations in Religious Studies, Africana Studies, and Gender Studies, all with a focus on ethnographic methods. In addition to publishing several books, as the founder of media company ConjureGirlBlue Productions, Dr. Manigualt-Bryant investigates community practices, pop cultural development, and the impact of new technologies to critically explore how Black women through the diaspora engage religion and spirituality to navigate the contours of everyday life.

The Mitchell Symposium is an annual event dedicated to the late Marlys Mitchell, PhD, founder of the MS OT program at UNC, and her husband, Earl.
