Amy Abramowitz is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and completed her undergraduate studies at UNC–Chapel Hill. She attended medical school at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She returned to North Carolina for a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Duke and joined UNC as faculty in July 2021. At UNC, Dr. Abramowitz serves as the program director for the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program and medical director of the inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit. She also sees patients through the Aging Brain Clinic in neurology and provides integrated care in geriatric medicine. Her quality improvement work focuses on reducing caregiver distress, particularly among caregivers of people living with dementia.
