Dr. Ashmita Chatterjee is an Associate Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine and a dual-trained Internal Medicine and Pediatrics hospitalist at UNC Hospitals.

Dr. Chatterjee is deeply committed to improving the quality, safety, and equity of inpatient care through systems-based innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration. As the physician leader for the Medicine Consult Service, she advances initiatives that enhance care coordination, streamline clinical processes, and promote standardized, evidence-based practices for common patient populations.

In addition to her clinical and leadership roles, Dr. Chatterjee serves as Faculty Director for Student Wellness and as an advisor and case-based learning facilitator at the UNC School of Medicine, where she integrates principles of patient safety, quality improvement, and clinician well-being into medical education.

Her scholarly interests focus on optimizing patient handoffs, improving transitions of care, and addressing healthcare disparities in the hospital setting.
