Brendan Malay is UNC Health’s System Executive Director of Hospital Quality and Care Redesign. With over 20 years in healthcare leadership, Brendan has driven quality improvement programs, enhanced patient outcomes, and leveraged data and technology for meaningful change. Previously, he led system-wide quality and clinical improvement initiatives as Director of UNC Health’s Care Redesign and Carolina Value teams. Before UNC Health, he spent a decade as an outpatient ortho/sports physical therapist in Boston, focusing on complex post-surgical rehab of the shoulder, knee, and hip. Brendan holds a BS/MS in Physical Therapy from Boston University and an MBA in Strategy and Leadership from UNC Kenan-Flagler. He is a certified PMP and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Based in Chapel Hill with his wife and two children, Brendan enjoys road cycling, triathlons, and cultural travel.
