Dr. Katie Butler completed medical school, combined Internal Medicine–Pediatrics residency, and Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, within the Divisions of Hospital Medicine. Her scholarly interests focus on pediatric vascular access and quality improvement (QI), with clinical interests that include the use of diagnostic point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to improve patient care.
She holds Lean Six Sigma certifications and completed additional QI training through the UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement’s Improvement Scholars Program in 2025, with an IHQI-funded project focused on identifying pediatric patients at risk for difficult intravenous access that has been accepted for presentation at the state and national levels. Dr. Butler is committed to leading quality improvement efforts and partnering with colleagues and leadership to improve care for children across the healthcare system.
