Dr. Herlihy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and holds a joint temporary clinical appointment in the School of Nursing. Her passion for quality improvement was born from her current roles in both food allergy research and clinical practice, caring for children with food allergies. Her doctoral work focused on early peanut introduction to prevent peanut allergy, which developed into a spread quality improvement project as an IHQI scholar in 2023. Dr. Herlihy hopes to continue working with early allergen introduction in infants to prevent food allergy by strengthening the partnerships between primary care clinics and allergy providers with more QI pursuits in the future. Her other role includes operational management of the UNC Food Allergy Initiative, which is nationally recognized as a leader in food allergy research and participates in both industry and federally funded clinical trials for food allergy.
