Liz Ciociola is a fourth-year medical student from Raleigh, NC who is pursuing ophthalmology. Liz previously completed a quality improvement project focused on increasing diabetic retinopathy screening rates at a primary care clinic using a fundus camera. This year as a Clinician Leadership in Quality and Safety (CLQS) Scholar, she is working with Dr. David Fleischman, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and UNC Hillsborough Perioperative Medical Director, to reduce the waste and cost of ophthalmic surgery for both patients and the hospital by switching from single- to multi-use preoperative ophthalmic medications.
