Professor of Psychiatry Professor of Emergency Medicine

Samuel A. McLean, MD, MPH received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and his MD degree and MPH in General Epidemiology at the University of Michigan. He then completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Emergency Medicine Residency at Boston Medical Center. Dr. McLean is currently an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The overarching goal of Dr. McLean’s research is to gain a better understanding the recovery process after trauma exposure, and to use this improved understanding to develop effective secondary preventive interventions to improve post-traumatic outcomes. Information regarding specific studies conducted by Dr. McLean are listed below. Outside of work, Dr. McLean enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on the Detroit Lions.
