Donald Caraccio, MD

Areas of Interest
General endocrinology, diabetes, and medical education. I am involved in an ongoing quality improvement project to improve osteoporosis care in patients admitted to UNC Hospitals with hip fractures. I have also completed the UNC Teaching Scholars program and am now implementing a new curriculum for residents on Inpatient Diabetes Management.
About
My career experiences have made for an ideal fit in the endocrinology faculty group. I treasure the opportunity to educate and empower patients with chronic endocrine conditions, especially diabetes. I believe that providing empathic and collaborative care allows for the best long term health outcomes. Dividing my time between the hospital wards and the clinic provides opportunities to diagnose and treat a wide variety of endocrine conditions. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our three dogs, as well as hiking and golfing.
