Maya Styner, MD
Associate Professor of Medicine
Areas of Interest
Metabolic bone disease, osteoporosis, lipodystrophies, and general endocrinology.
About
Dr. Styner’s practice consists of consultation and ongoing care for patients with endocrine disorders and diabetes, with a focus on metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis.
Dr. Styner’s research is focused on bone health and metabolic health—work that directly applies to patient care in her practice. In the laboratory, she studies how exercise regulates the poorly understood fat in the bone, also known as marrow fat. These studies will inform future treatments designed to improve skeletal and metabolic health.
I was drawn to medicine at a young age and had a goal of primary care. However, I found that many of the medical conditions that my patients suffered from were associated with weight gain. Now, I focus my clinical work on addressing weight first through lifestyle and medications with the goal of improving diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, arthritis, sleep apnea, and quality of life. I also love to teach and spend my other work time teaching medical studies and residents the skills of weight management, public health, and preventive medicine.
