Dr. Xi’s research focuses on signal transduction, proteins posttranslational modification, such as phosphorylation, oxidation and ubiquitination, and protein/protein interaction under varieties of stress/disease conditions. One of Dr. Xi’s long term research area is vascular smooth muscle signal transduction under hyperglycemic and oxidative stress conditions. Most recently, regulation of vascular smooth muscle cells phenotype exchange under hyperglycemic/uremic conditions is funded by NIH. In addition, Dr. Xi investigate the underlying mechanisms which lead to minimal change disease (MCD) and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Identification autoantigens that are responsible for these diseases not only provide potential novel strategies to treat MCD/FSGS but also make the precise diagnosis and individualized treatment plan possible.
