Brooke is originally from Richmond and graduated from William and Mary with a degree in biology. Brooke’s research within the UNC Department of Cell Biology and Physiology has focused on how adrenomedullin, a small peptide hormone, contributes to critical processes of implantation and placentation to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Her work was funded by an F30 from NICHD and led to the publication of multiple first and co-first publications and her successful patent as a co-inventor for the application on the use of AM in assisted reproduction. In addition to her graduate thesis research, Brooke and others partnered with the MD-PhD students at Mount Sinai as part of the Advocates for Inclusion in Medicine and Science to survey undergraduate students applying to MD, PhD, and/or MD-PhD programs to determine whether perceptions of gender inequality in these programs affected their decisions. Brooke has also been involved with the medical school, serving as the MSTP student council class representative, working with the admissions committee, chairing the career development and outreach section of the UNC Advocates for Inclusion in Medicine and Science, and working as co-president of the John B. Graham Medical Student Research Society. Brooke enjoys fitness classes and indoor cycling, reading, and playing handbells and piano.
