Christoph Rau, Ph.D.

Congratulations to the Lab of Christoph Rau, Ph.D., an MHI member and Assistant Professor, Computational Medicine and Genetics, in collaboration with Brian Colwell Jensen, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine; Senior Physician Scientist and Deputy Director, McAllister Heart Institute, for publishing manuscript, titled “Genetic Determinants of Heart Failure Susceptibility and Response in the Collaborative Cross Mouse Population ” in the journal Genetics.

GeneticsIn this research, The Rau Lab & Dr. Jensen use the Collaborative Cross to identify genomic regions responsible for the progression of heart failure-associated phenotypes and specific genes within these loci that are the most likely candidate genes driving the response to catecholamine overdrive. They then validate three of these gene targets. Hopefully, these validated targets, along with the other genes they have identified, will lead to a better understanding of how genetics predisposes or protects individuals from developing heart failure. The work is currently available as a preprint, which can be read online now.
