Dr Lewis Lanier is Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of California, San Francisco. He was a graduate student and a postdoctoral trainee in the department (1975-1979); his research here involved studies of murine B-cell lymphomas, under the direction of Professor Geoffrey Haughton. Dr Lanier did research in the private sector for several years before joining the faculty of UCSF in 1999. A major focus of Dr Lanier’s current research is the role and properties of natural killer cells in the immune system.
