Adamberage (Rukie) de Alwis was named as a member of the Royster Society of Fellows. As a member this society, Rukie will have a chance to act as an ambassador for graduate education both at UNC and abroad. This honor comes with a $20,000 fellowship based on both scholarship and leadership qualities. This award will allow her to complete her graduate studies, and she will also receive a $1000 travel award which will allow her to present her research at meetings and conferences. Rukie’s research (de Silva lab) is on Dengue viral infection. She was the first author of a recent PNAS paper detailing new information on how human Dengue immune responses differ from those of animal models.
Membership in the Royster Society of Fellows is considered the highest honor awarded by the Graduate School of UNC. Congratulations Rukie!
