January 14, 2025 Understanding Blood Tests
This talk will provide a foundational overview of blood tests specifically peripheral blood, its components, and their essential roles in health and disease. The talk will explore functions of blood in immunity and oxygen delivery. Additionally, it will cover the practical aspects of blood analysis, including the types of blood collection tubes, the instruments used in hematology labs, and basic patterns analyzing samples. Finally, it will include discussion of a few common hematologic diseases such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and other malignancies. By the end of the talk, attendees will have a better understanding of blood’s critical functions, how we analyze it, and the key diseases that affect it.
