Dr. Jason Stein has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Genetics, effective January 1, 2022.

Dr. Stein earned his BA from the Integrated Science Program at Northwestern University and his PhD in Neuroscience at UCLA.  He served as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Dan Geschwind in the Departments of Neurology, Psychiatry and Human Genetics at UCLA.  Dr. Stein was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics and UNC Neuroscience Center in 2016.  His lab explores how variations in the genome change the structure and development of the brain, creating risk for neuropsychiatric illness and he has published more than 20 papers since joining the department.
