NMC Operational Plans, by Room Number. Effective August 1st, 2020.

Systems: Olympus FV3000RS, Zeiss LSM780, Zeiss 7MP

Room Occupancy: 3

What to do before your imaging session.

When scheduling your imaging sessions, make sure you adhere to the reservation guidelines. For these systems users may schedule an imaging session no more than one week in advance, and users are limited to three 4-hour imaging sessions during peak hours (8am-6pm) per week. This limit does not apply to night and weekend reservations.

If you would like to reserve a system up until the staff disinfection period, you will need to shorten the reservation time by 30-minutes to avoid an iLab error due to the 30-minute buffer period. In this specific instance you may continue to image through the buffer period until the start of the staff disinfection window.

If your samples are ready in advance of your imaging session, you may drop them off outside room 5114 a day of more in advance if this will prevent you from needing to enter another lab space before coming to the core facility. We have the ability to store samples at room temperature, 4oC, and 37oC with 5% CO2.

What to do during your imaging session.

When entering the building, please enter from the side of the building closest entrance closest to the freight/service elevator (facing Thurston-Bowles) so as not to cross through the Anton and Deshmukh lab spaces. When you arrive at the core make sure you are wearing a department issued mask and stay within the lines on the floor to ensure core users do not disrupt distancing guidelines in the Anton or Deshmukh lab spaces.

Make sure you are wearing a department issued mask and put on gloves located on the PPE cart outside the door of room 5114. Face shields can be made available upon request. Pickup any samples you dropped off ahead of time, then proceed to room 5114. Knock before entering in case another user is already in the room and make your way to the microscope following the path on the floor.

Once you are at the system, sign the logsheet and disinfect the keyboard, mouse, oculars/eyepieces, focus knobs, stage controls, and touchscreens. If you are staying in room 5114 for the duration of your imaging session, please remain within the area marked on the floor to ensure adequate physical distancing from users on other microscopes.

If a you need to use the restroom during their imaging session, they should use the restrooms closest to the freight elevator to avoid crossing through the Anton and Deshmukh Labs.

What to do after your imaging session.

When your scheduled imaging time ends, please shutdown the system according to the instructions at the microscope, disinfect the system, and sign out on the logsheet. Discard your gloves after leaving the room. It is important, for your safety and the safety of other core users that you do not continue to image into the 30-minute buffer period between users. The only exception to this rule is if you are imaging up to the staff disinfection window, as described above.
