The University of North Carolina (UNC) recently hosted the 2024 Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Development Program retreat, an event that brought together some of the most promising scholars and researchers in the field of women’s health. Funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and co-sponsored by the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health, this program continues to support groundbreaking work that addresses gynecologic health and disease.
Held over two days in early November, the retreat provided a platform for WRHR scholars to present their research, share ideas, and network with fellow scientists, as well as NIH representatives. With a strong focus on advancing women’s health, UNC is proud to be one of 15 sites selected to receive WRHR funding for the 2020-2025 period, with each site hosting up to two scholars at a time.
This year’s retreat attracted 60 attendees, including current WRHR scholars, representatives from the NIH, and experts in the field. The gathering served as a powerful reminder of the critical importance of supporting women’s health research. It also gave attendees the chance to interact with the diverse community of scholars from across the nation who are working tirelessly to address some of the most pressing issues in gynecologic health.
The retreat kicked off with a Welcome Reception on November 6, held at The Blue Zone, where 20 additional members of the UNC women’s health research community were invited to join the celebration. Of course, no UNC event is complete without a visit from the beloved Ramses, who made a special appearance to welcome the attendees.
