Associate Professor, Global Women’s Health
Dr. Jennifer Tang completed her Bachelor of Arts at Rice University, her MD at Baylor College of Medicine, her residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, and her Fellowship in Family Planning and Masters of Science in Clinical Research at UNC.
She then moved to Lilongwe, Malawi in August 2012, where she has been involved in research, teaching, and clinical work. She helped to establish Malawi’s first OB-GYN residency program, which began in September 2013, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Malawi College of Medicine. She also serves as a member of the Malawi Ministry of Health’s Family Planning Sub-Committee. Her research focuses on international family planning (HIV and contraception, postpartum family planning), obstetric fistula, cervical cancer, and maternal health. Her projects have been funded by the NIH, CDC, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, ACOG, and World Bank. She moved back to North Carolina in September 2017 but still returns to Malawi periodically to monitor her research there and support UNC Project-Malawi’s training and research activities.
