Personal Biography:

Emily Slaughterbeck, raised in Chapel Hill, joins UNC after working as a midwife in Greensboro. While building on her nursing education from Wake Tech and Winston- Salem State University, Emily gained her MSN in midwifery from East Carolina University. Her background includes critical care nursing, community labor and birth, nursing leadership, and nursing education. The midwifery model of care allows Emily to pursue her goal of facilitating relationships where all patients can participate in respectful, consensual care. Equal part a birth and reproductive justice advocate, serving in her community has been a long dream in the making. She believes now is a vital time for midwifery in North Carolina and is proud to represent her profession. In addition to midwifery, Emily enjoys the moments she can see her family or friends. Family and community is the most important aspect of her life. She can also be found hanging out with her chickens, cooking, or remodeling her older but loved home.
