UNC School of Medicine’s Career Goal Advising Program parallels the structure of the AAMC’s Careers in Medicine (CiM) program, and is designed to expose students to medical specialties, guide career decision-making, and support residency placements.
UNC School of Medicine’s Career Goal Advisors provide students with insight into their specialties, including ideal professional characteristics, clinical demands, training/residency requirements, and lifestyle. They can also be instrumental in assisting with networking and sharing information about specialty resources, including conferences and annual meetings.
A student’s Career Goal Advisor and College Advisor work together to support career development. Students can research specialty options by visiting the AAMC’s Careers in Medicine website or arrange a meeting with one of the Career Goal Advisors. Students can easily change career goal advisors by reaching out to the specialty head career goal advisor or to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
