Speaker Biography

Dr. Girish Gandikota is a Professor of Radiology at the University of North Carolina specializing in Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Dr. Gandikota obtained board certifications in surgery (FRCS) and Radiology (FRCR) in the UK. He then had the opportunity to do a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology the McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After the fellowship, he joined the University of Michigan as a lecturer. He has been promoted successfully to professor and has received American board certification (ABR). He has also obtained ultrasound RMSK certification from APCA/ARDMS. He joined the radiology department at the University Of North Carolina in 2022 as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations.

Winner of the excellence in teaching awards, Dr. Gandikota has been an invited speaker, delivering more than 300 invited lectures and national presentations. He has over 75 scientific papers/exhibits at national conferences and over 65 peer-reviewed publications. His main research interests include MSK Ultrasound, Sports Medicine, and Arthritis. MSK ultrasound training is spread over three countries (UK (Residency), Canada (Fellowship), and USA (Faculty)). Presently has over 15 years of MSK ultrasound experience. Conducts CME courses on MSK radiology and ultrasound in USA and India. He is a co-investigator in an NIH RO1 Grant on Arthritis. He has mentored many residents, technologists, and medical students.

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Gandikota has multiple administration roles at the University of North Carolina and at the national level. He is the Vice Chair of Clinical operations of the Department. He is a member of national professional societies like the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR), ISS, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), where he regularly lectures. He has been the Chair of the Assessment Oversight Team (AOT) RMSK-APCA appointed for the musculoskeletal physician examination. He is a reviewer for esteemed radiology and rheumatology journals, including Arthritis and rheumatology.
