Fellowship year: 2021-2022
Residency: Internal Medicine, Tulane University
Liz was born in Japan and spent her childhood moving around the country every few years as a military brat. The moves ultimately brought her family to North Carolina, where she attended high school and then went to Duke for undergrad. She then went on to spend the next 4 years in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer.
After her time in the Navy, she returned to North Carolina to attend medical school at UNC (as an FYI, her basketball loyalty will forever lie with Duke). She then completed an Internal Medicine residency at Tulane University in New Orleans and stayed on to complete a chief year.
Liz is incredibly happy to return to UNC for fellowship. She loved her time as a medical student at UNC and is excited to join the palliative care team. She looks forward to exploring what different career paths in palliative care might look like during fellowship.
Outside of work, you’ll largely find Liz spending time with her family: her husband Tom who has kept her going and well-fed through all of her medical training, her daughter Claire, and soon will be welcoming baby #2 to the fold. She also loves to read, is hoping that international travel becomes a thing again soon, and can’t wait to explore the Triangle’s amazing restaurants.
