Program Director, UNC Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program

I am honored to be the Program Director of UNC’s Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program. I am a UNC undergraduate and trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. I worked as a hospitalist at Duke Regional Hospital for five years before completing my Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship training at UNC in 2020. I have been faculty in the Palliative Care Program at UNC since 2020, served as Associate Program Director of the fellowship program from 2022-2025, and became the Program Director in 2025.

Mentoring, teaching, and spending time with our fellows is the highlight of my career. Outside of medicine, I am married to Nicole Zimmerman, a physical therapist at UNC. We have two daughters- Emma (9) and Chloe (7). I enjoy attending my kids’ activities, exploring local restaurants and breweries, camping, running, being outside, and reading as much as possible.
